Writing Wednesdays: Answering your questions about The Kissing Booth 2 - part one

In this post, I answer some of the questions I'm getting most about the sequel to The Kissing Booth, Going the Distance!

I've been getting loads of questions recently about the sequel to The Kissing Booth, and you guys know what my solution to that is... That's right: a blog post. Today, I'm going to address some of the questions I've been getting the most!

Will there be a sequel to The Kissing Booth?

(I've been getting this question in comments on Instagram a lot... even if it's a post of me talking about the sequel. Figured I'd better include it here too!)

YES, there will be a sequel! Both a novel (which at the time of posting this, I'm currently working through the edits on) and a movie.

Will Joey/Jacob/Joel be in the movie?

Yup!

Have you written the sequel already?

I have indeed. It's actually been in the works for several years. I started out with just wanting to write this one scene and eventually it developed into a book. The first draft was not in the best shape - I was actually re-writing big parts of it in early 2017! Earlier this year, it went to my editor at Penguin Random House, and she and my US editor sent me their notes on it. That's what I'm working through now. It's nothing major - mostly just tightening up different parts of the storyline.

Will the second movie be based on your second book?

Also yes!

Wait... how does that work? If you're still editing/it's not been published?

Because the book was already written and had gone through a few rounds of edits with my agent, we'd shared it with the team for the movie.

What's the book about?

You'll have to wait till the book comes out! But I can share the blurb with you:

Elle Evans seems to have finally tamed hotter-than-hot bad boy Noah Flynn, but now they're facing a new challenge. Noah's 3,000 miles away at Harvard, which means they're officially a long-distance couple - and it's tough. After all, there's only so much texts and calls can satisfy - and when Elle sees a post which suggests Noah's getting friendly with another girl, she's devastated. On top of that, it's hard to ignore new boy Levi. He's gentle, sweet, cute - and definitely interested in Elle. With her heart on the line, what's a girl to do?Join Elle, Noah, Lee and all your favourite Kissing Booth characters for another amazing romantic story that's sure to have you swooning...

Do you know how much fans want Elle and Noah to stay together?

Judging by the amount of messages and comments I get about this every day, yes, I do know, haha. And don't get me wrong: I love seeing how enthusiastic people are about the story and how much the characters mean to them. But as a general rule, I don't reply to any of these - I don't want anything I say to be misread or misconstrued, or for people to read into it in any way.

When will the sequel be out?

The novel will be coming in January 2020 and you can pre-order it now! It's called The Kissing Booth 2: Going the Distance. As for the film - sorry, but I can't say at this stage!

You'll also be able to read the first chapter of TKB2: Going the Distance in my companion novella, The Beach House - which you can purchase here, or find out more about here.

That's so far away! Why is it so far away if you've already written the book?

There's so much more that goes into publishing a book than just writing it. I wrote a couple of weeks ago about why publishing deals are more complicated than you think, so if you're interested, go check that out!

Will you be going to set again?

I WILL! I can't wait! I'm not sure I can post much (if anything) from set until after the film is out buuuut, I will probably be doing a lot of travel-related posts here, on my Instagram (where I'm @authorbethreekles) and maybe on my YouTube. So keep an eye out for those!

Was it hard to write a sequel?

Surprisingly no? But also yes? I'm going to talk about this a lot more in another Writing Wednesday post after all the edits are done, but it was more of a struggle with a couple of the storylines at first, and not necessarily hard because it was a sequel. And I've been talking on my Twitter and Instagram about how hard the editing is, but honestly, that's just because I find ALL editing a challenge, whatever the book.

Wait! I have questions about the sequel you haven't answered!

I mean, probably. I'm sure I've missed off a few - but I wanted to address the ones I've been seeing the most on my social media. And I'm sure there will be many more questions when the book is coming out, so chances are, at some point, I'll be doing another one of these!

That's it for this post, though! I hope that's helped clear up any questions you've got about the sequel to The Kissing Booth - and I'm looking forward to sharing more about it with you over the next few months!
